If you were to look up the word volunteer in the dictionary, it might say something like the following

[vol-uh n-teer]
a person who performs a service willingly and without pay. We don’t pay our volunteers, not because they are worthless, but because they are priceless.

I am sure that you have seen signs in the past that say something like the following:

Help Required

Well, we Need Your Help. We Need your help, now!

What we are in urgent need is a few hours a week or a few hours a month to help us get funding. If you feel that you are a “people” person and enjoy talking to people then please contact us. We need people to talk to other people. We need people with an out-going personality that will not be afraid of asking others to give money.

You know, you don’t make enemies if you ask people nicely for money. All that they can do is to say no. But, you would be surprised just how many people say yes. And, even it is well, maybe you have made a contact. You have reached out and opened your heart to help an organization that whose sole purpose is to help others.

It is worth your time to consider this. You don’t need a large commitment of time. Just a little bit of time will go a long way to helping us. I wish that we could pay you for your time, but none of us are paid. I can only guarantee that you would be paid the same as all of us, from our president on down. We all make the same amount of money for our services. The only thing that I can offer you in return for your help is a good feeling. A feeling that you are helping your fellow people on this planet. It takes only saying that you will help today. Just help today. You don’t need to help tomorrow. Just help today. See how it feels. Maybe your today will come back again tomorrow and the next day and the day after that.

If you want to check us out then the best way is to come by and see our operation at work. Come by the operation in Roseville or Auburn or Colfax. The times are posted here. It is not for very long. It will only take an hour of your time. I can only offer you some coffee or a donut in exchange. When they are not so busy helping others then talk to our volunteers. Talk to the people that we serve. They are more than happy to speak to anyone and tell you their story. Don’t decide that day. Spend the day and think about it. Then, maybe you can find it in your heart to help others with a bit more of your time.

If it doesn’t work out, … well, you haven’t invested much time.

What we need are people to work on a fundraising committee. We do not ask that you do it alone. All that we ask is that you join with others to help us raise funds. Our operation is running pretty well in terms of the people working the services. What we need is funding. Like all charities, we rely upon the generosity of others to get our money. We don’t have anything to sell. We don’t sell watches or cell phones or computers. We can only sell ourselves, our talents, our good deeds, and open our hearts to others.

Believe me, that feeling is priceless.

If you are moved to offer your help, and we really do need your help in raising funding, then please let us know. You can reach us at the email address of mail -at- wwjdinc -dot- org.
